Recently, there were cases of swine flu outbreaks in various parts of the world. This H1N1 virus caused alarm and panic among the people. It was reported at first that a hundred plus people that had died and later, they reported that only around slightly more than 15 people had died.
Why can't they just give the exact information on the number of people that had exactly died. It was only so few compared to a hundred plus. They had given us a unnecessary fright. Just imagine the alarm that they caused when it was reported that so many people died.
This H1N1 virus seemed to have originated in Mexico. Cities were closed down and people were ordered to stay at home. This virus had spread to many other countries, like USA and New Zealand. It may even have reached Singapore as an NTU who arrived from Mexico had flu symptoms.
Singapore raised the alert to orange alert and my friends and I wanted it to be raised to red alert so that there would be no school! However, the alert was lowered to yellow alert, which is pretty sad because we have to continue schooling. People in Mexico are recovering and there are fewer and fewer cases.
HOWEVER, we must know that this isn't over. This virus comes in waves and each wave will be stronger than before. In my opinion, the next and stronger wave would come in September, During the winter season when countries with winter will cause people to fall ill, as this flu passes on to another person, the virus would be more likely to mutate into a stronger form.
Hence, we must still be alert and not be complacent so that we will not be caught offguard.
